Treescape Limited

Treescape specialises in the cost effective maintenance of trees and vegetation, from tree pruning, tree removals, power line clearing, transplanting, land clearing, consultancy and restoration projects. Treescape pride ourselves in working safely, professionally and with integrity.

Why did your organisation decide to focus on its environmental management?

Treescape have a highly visible brand, seen in the community operating a fuel-hungry fleet of machinery that clears land and cuts down trees. The public don’t often see the pest eradication, planting and restoration projects we are also involved in every day.

We wanted to use the certification as a way of communicating our commitment to the environment, and use it as a vehicle to improve on our environmental management.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of your environmental programme?

When integrated with our existing WSMP and triple ISO certifications, our Integrated Management System (IMS) becomes a very powerful platform from which to drive positive change. It ensures we are accountable with third party auditing, and has helped to raise awareness both internally and externally, of our actual and potential impact on the environment.

What has been the most challenging aspect of this?

Ensuring staff understand that old school habits cannot continue. A significant culture change through all levels of the business has occurred since our environmental programme began.

What are some of your (environmental management system) EMS achievements?

A standardised approach has been applied to all Treescape depots and yards, for fuel, DG management, and storage. Local managers now take a proactive role in managing their environmental compliance, such as the management of environmentally friendly truck washing procedures, container recycling programmes, and general waste management.

What advice would you give to other companies thinking of implementing an EMS?

Engage with the programme as much as possible to maximise the value of your EMS and your Enviro-Mark membership.

How has being a member of the Enviro-Mark programme assisted you?

Having that initial support and training as the programme was being established.

What value does Enviro-Mark certification have for your organisation?

It is a localised certification supported by Government, which helps to add credibility and demonstrates our commitment to the environment, especially when applying for tenders.

Where are you heading now with your environmental management efforts?

As we are at the highest level possible for all of our certifications, our next project is to move our system from our internal hard drive to an interactive and engaging software portal, based in the cloud. This will allow us even greater company-wide engagement and efficiencies.

Enviro-Mark Diamond certification ensures we are accountable with third party auditing, and has helped to raise awareness both internally and externally, of our actual and potential impact on the environment.
